Myself and those who sign are humbly asking the Gameloft team to consider updating these titles to be compatible with modern smartphones and tablets. Of course, that list doesn't have to be conclusive! This petition's purpose is to garner the attention of Gameloft and show them that we love and miss their old games and want to be able to play them once again on our bigger, more powerful devices.Ī number of games that we would love to see updated include the most popular and highly acclaimed first-party titles:

Unfortunately, as time and technology have moved on, these games have been put on the proverbial dusty shelves of incompatibility, supposedly never to be played again. Many veteran smartphone gamers have fond memories of many early Gameloft games such as N.O.V.A., Dungeon Hunter & Hero of Sparta.

TL DR: Even if the audience is there, the difference in inputs between mouse/keyboard and touchscreen is a significant roadblock for the genre.Gameloft were the first to attempt to create full console experiences on our mobile devices. In addition, the whole point of a control group was that you selected it with your left hand while your right could still move the mouse, which is also going to be cumbersome to institute on a touchscreen. The only way to produce a similar effect on a touchscreen is by taking up valuable screen real estate.

I can't play Tiberian Dawn anymore because it doesn't support control groups, which are vital for every RTS since C&C: Red Alert (for those unfamiliar with the term, a 'control group' is a group of units that can be hotkeyed and reselected by hitting the hotkey, usually a number button). Furthermore, how do we scroll the screen? Without a mouse to move to the edges, how does the game know whether we're trying to scroll or just selecting/giving orders?Ĭontrol groups are king. Putting these functions on a touchscreen where the 1 second tap-and-hold usually used for alternate clicks is tactically relevant gets a bit dicey. Additional orders (such as Attack Move, Patrol, and Force Attack) could be handled via the mouse, but were usually done with keyboard shortcuts by anyone with some skill. Except for C&C, most old RTSes worked using a 2 button mouse, the left click to select and the right to give default orders like move or attack. The input between a mouse/keyboard and a touchscreen is completely different. I know nothing about programming, but I can see some problems just based on the interface. Table is so awesome for adventures/quests, and the fact that you need a jailbreak to play those gems is frustrating.

Full Throttle on an iPad? It would be perfect! And with SCUMM you don't even need a lot of tweaking, the game is basically ready, just update a bit - even if it flops, you lost almost nothing, as the game content was already paid for and if it rocks you just generated cash out of thin air. What surprises me more is why we don't see more old LucasArts quests - only Monkey Island was there.

Baldur's Gate 1&2 showed that it's possible to transfer the game to the platform, so why not do it with Fallouts, Arcanum, IWD, P:T and even more oldschool games like Ultima series and Crusader or LBA duologies? The content is there, just need to update controls, scaling and interface (the last one can be a bitch). Not only those, but a whole slew of other isometric games too.
